Breaking The Ice. Empty
PostSubject: Breaking The Ice.   Breaking The Ice. Icon_minitimeTue Sep 04, 2007 6:12 pm

Hi all!

So, how do we break the ice when networking? There are many ways I use and have not thought of. I am hoping that many people share their ways of breaking the ice while networking too. So, I may also learn new things while networking too. Smile

I think sharing personal information is a good start. Not details such as names, places, and etc. We do have to be careful on the net. But, how many children, what our favorite restaurant is, and hobbies.

This might seem weird...but, I do just write. Do I check for typos in my emails yes. Do I correct them sometimes. But, only when the sentence structure is not recognizable. I do this for many reasons.

A) When you invite contacts or friends. You are also searching for your business. Well, I would rather work with somebody that can overlook a typo or two. If they overlook your faults. Then, they can overlook other peoples faults. They can work with you and their own team easily. In business you do need to look professional, but you also need to be kind and understanding. I would not want to look perfect and be perfect all the time. In business we all make mistakes we are human to do as such. What we need in our business is to find others to pick us up when mistakes ARE made. Not to bring us down.

B) I do not go out the front door looking for the first mild mannered perfectly dressed always enunciating every word beautifully and chews every bite 100 times kind of friend. So, why would I search for my friends online that way?

I know that it might seem hard to have typos but no I do it pretty easily. LOL! But, at least, I work with a team of people I am able to talk to. They are my support system in business and as my friends. They chose me and I chose them. We have perfectly fit. Who erally wants to be perfect all the time? That is stressful and a hard fall when you do make a mistake.

So how do you break the ice?

Dawn Very Happy

Breaking The Ice. Empty
PostSubject: Straight forward and Honest:   Breaking The Ice. Icon_minitimeTue Sep 11, 2007 11:45 pm

HI I find it eaiser to be straight forward and Honest. This way what
ever forces I encounter, will have to contend with what I want to be
the long run base for a relationship. By letting others be who they
wish to be at the time, and not pretending to be someone I am not,
breaking the ice have never been a problem for me.

On the Internet, I except the fact that I am a marketer. My only reason
for being here is to SELL. The person I am meeting may not be a buyer,
so I need to learn as much about those I am meeting. The ideal product
is the one that a prospective buyer wants. MY job is to identify that the
people I meet "need" my product. If they do not, I need to be open
to learning all they can teach me.

I hope this answer helps someone:

Everyone has a story to tell. I like to hear their story first before business. I learn about them and in turn they will learn about me. Our business may not be something each other can use but maybe an associate of his/hers. People do business with people they like, trust me that is how the good ole boy network works...Not a bad place to start.

It's people not just money, we all need both...

I have always been taught to get to know people first and build the friendship and trust before you even mentioning about a business.

People are more willling to buy and work with people they know then with complete stangers.

For me, be friendly, honest and share your knowledge. In this way, networking can be easy.

Dawn,
i liked what u said. Even i let some typos be there but that because I am just too lazy to correct them! But your point is quite interesting and if I start looking at my typos your way, I wont feel guilty abt my laziness.
Yes, we r looking for people/friends who err sometime or the other. That makes them perfectly human.
Regarding how i break the ice,I too am friendly, casual and honest like many of you who mentioned in your posts. That's the way I am in real life too.so I am just myself-take it or leave it!! Mostly, they take it!!!
Cheers!

I can not agree with you and Dawn more about typos.
Everyone makes typos There is nothing more annoying then when a person points out your typing errors.

Then you have the people on forums who criticize other peoples typing errors and grammar errors, which is usually just a language barrier. Not a lot of people do criticize but I would not want to work with those that do.
