Traffic Exchanges

I'm not really sure where to put this, under Networking, Advertising or Questions, but being as it is somewhat of a question that I would like to open for discussion, I'm starting it off in the Questions section and if need be, please place it in the proper place.

I would like to know whether or not traffic exchanges, as a way of advertising, really work.

I'm pretty sure that auto-surf programs are a waste of time unless all you want to do is see the visitor counter rack up more numbers.

But what about those programs where one clicks on sites to get more credits so that one can advertise one's own site.

Is anybody really seeing what they are clicking on?

Has anybody seen any real results in the way of sales and/or signups?

I have racked up over 10,000 credits in one such program, but I'm pretty sure that I have not had one signup from all those credits.

I have used Traffic exchanges in the past and i would spent hour upon hour surfing them to rake up credits.
I would get loads of views of my sites ,but the only odd one or 2 sign ups.
I have come to learn that traffic exchanges are only good for getting your site seen and not getting sign ups from them.
Advertising other Traffic exchanges or sites that will help people with more advertising ect are the only things that work.

I do not advertise any of my programmes on Traffic exchanges any more ,BUT in the last few days i have started trying them again and advertising the forum only with the Splash pages nuvitas has put together.
